Accomplish what I was afraid to do

Accomplish what I was afraid to do

I am a mother of 5 and grandmother of 10. I am 58 years old.

As a younger woman of 23 my husband and I were stationed in Germany with the Air Force. I had three young children and really wanted something to do for myself. A friend had taken classes from Mr. Hertzfeld and encouraged me to try it out. I thought about it and decided it would be what I needed. I didn’t understand then what a treasure I had stumbled upon. Since those days I often have wished for a different ending to my art experience. …

Waiting for my chance.

Waiting for my chance.

Feedback from Kathy Winemiller

At age 17 I was awarded a scholarship to do fashion design at the Art Institute in Chicago. My parents felt I was to young to go to Chicago and I had to decline the scholarship.
As years passed I decided to take an oil painting class where I rekindled my passion for art. The past 3 years I have painted a few paintings, but currently am studying with an actual art instructor. I am drawn to the impressionist style of painting and feel this is what my style of painting is closest to. …

Imagine Life as a Master Artist

Imagine Life as a Master Artist

Feedback from Anet Louw

I am a self-taught artist from Cape Town South Africa.

My dream as a small child was always to become an artist. Unfortunately I grew up in a town where art was not on the curriculum of subjects in High School and also not a very serious one in Primary School, and to top it all my parents thought like other older people did: art is for weirdo’s!
I always did my own and my friends Biography sketches during my High School years. One of my fellow pupils remember me as someone who was always drawing in class on pieces of paper. …

My pursuit of Caravaggios light

My pursuit of Caravaggios light

Feedback from Magnus Forsberg

My name is Magnus and I’m originally from Sweden but have travelled a lot and am now living in the Canaries.

Art has been my primary interest since I was a young boy, ever since I first got a hold of a pencil really and I have been drawing ever since. Growing up pictures of Rembrandt made me curious of oil painting and I dreamed of one day pursue that as something more serious, even a career but it wasn’t until I saw ‘The Calling of St Matthew’ by Caravaggio that I felt a deep calling – that was what I wanted to do, depict that mesmerizing light and the sense of endless depth.

I started to paint but found it very hard, all the technical aspects were discouraging though I kept trying. I started looking for schools or courses but everything available was modernism or ‘ways to express yourself’. …

Old People Can Too

Feedback from Dale

I am an older art student who is making an effort to re-degree my career in Fine Arts. Fine Arts training is usable training not only in artistic endeavors but in mathematics, chemistry, biology and research. I am always looking for new materials, discovering old ways of creating my own materials and their uses. I plan to use my research and training as a tool for education in local communities and foreign countries to enrich the lives of others. …

Finding courage to make art again

Finding courage to make art again

Feedback from Karin de Jong

I am now 56. I draw and paint my whole life. As a child I loved to be under the table and draw. I visited art-school but worked as a primary school teacher.

I had four children and there never seemed to be time to get really into art, although I was always making little drawings everywhere.

I want to discover the secrets of the Old Masters

Feedback from Anil

I am 36 years old. I live in Turkey. I work in a bank works, a place that is not suitable for my soul at all. I live alone.

For now art is just my hobby. But I try to turn it into the main centre of my life and become a well known painter so that I can maybe plant some good images of life into the thoughts of people and make them happier.
