Plateaued Artist
Feedback from Bill Hengen
Basically a self taught artist. I’ve been drawing since grade school. I even entered a few school art competitions, usually came in second or third.
I also drew some characters for my sister’s d&d game and a local band. After High School joined the Army Reserves as an Illustrator, ended up in a unit that even though had a few illustrator slots, they didn’t have a need for illustrations.
That was that for a while until about 15 years ago when I saw a picture of a kabuki dancer in the entertainment center of a local newspaper, grabbed a cheap wood board and bought some acrylic paints and painted it. It didn’t turn out that bad (Which is attached along with another painting I did for my mother..), so I picked it back and up and now paint and draw whenever I can, learning from whatever resource I can get my hands on.
I’ve even sold a few paintings and drawings over the years.
My learning has kind of plateaued. So I’m hoping this course will help me as the Anatomy Master Class has helped me hone my figure drawing skills.
My favourite artists are Titian, Caravaggio are my most favorite, they both have a dynamic original style.
My main challenge in art is overworking the painting. I get caught up in trying to capture every detail that I lose fluidity.
I also want to know how to capture depth. I have trouble with glazing….It’s seems simple but elusive.
