Art is not about a pretty picture. It is about having something to say and being able to say it well and powerful through excellent composition, right choice of color or no color, right choice of subject and being able to apply all of one’s faculties: emotion, intellect, force, psychological make-up, to dance with the mysteries and allow them to come up and not sabotage the moment. Most of us get married to an idea instead of setting the idea free and allow the journey to begin.

I think the “contemporary old master” is Odd Nerdrum, because he tries to apply the Old Masters techniques, but he fails horribly in that he does not have the fine tuned instrument of gnosis that Rembrandt did.

My favourite artist is Rembrandt for his well tuned understanding of the human condition.

My main challenge in art is finding my way in color at the moment.
I also want to learn oil painting techniques, such as glazing, scumbling, fresco and impasto.
