She had just graduated high school and she had been selected by a top college in the country. She was enjoying a nice summer day out on the lake. They had a platform where she…

As any artist knows, anything can serve as a canvas, but for the truly exquisite look, you need something special. In this short guide, we’ll explain some of the art and craft products available and some possible applications for these products. We all know that Van Gogh only managed to sell one painting in his life – a clear illustration of the fact that making art and selling it are two very different things (and great comfort to those artists who never sell anything!). The ability to create good art does not necessarily bear any relationship to the ability to sell it. Completely different skills and knowledge are involved. The traditional model has been that the selling side has been taken care of by galleries, leaving artists to concentrate of the creative side. This is fine if you are lucky enough to have a high profile gallery on your side, but a whole new field of opportunity has opened up now,…

The art industry has always been, and probably always will be, very in demand. Not only because everyone enjoys and good work of art, but because businesses depend on creative marketing images to capture buyer attention. Advertising is arguably the biggest business in the US, if not the world, so the need for cutting edge and clever artistic images is always expanding. The average starting salary for graphic artists alone starts around $15/hr and can skyrocket from there. Scumbling techniques have been used by master painters since the 1600s to create smooth gradations, modify a previously dried layer of paint and to add a sense of depth. This technique is accomplished by applying thin layers of light opaque colors over dark layers of dried transparent paint. The final results gives a painting a surface that various in how much of the under painting is revealed. An ultra thin layer of an opaque paint can soften an area of a painting while giving it a misty, almost out of focus look that might be typical of background objects. Adding a thicker layer of paint to an area would naturally give that object an appearance of being in the foreground….

In this article I will detail the tube colors of a starter palette for beginning artists. These are in fact the colors I personally use most often Here is the proposed 6-color palette: 1. Lemon Yellow 2. Cadmium Yellow 3. Cadmium Red 4. Permanent Rose (Alizarin Crimson) 5. French Ultramarine 6. Phthalo Blue 7. Titanium White 8. Ivory Black Note that White and Black are generally not classified as colors. A color is often known by different names depending on the manufacturer. For example, Permanent Rose is more or less the same as Alizarin Crimson. The above palette has the capacity to produce very clean secondary colors, i.e., colors that are a mixture of just two tube colors. Notice that…
