Old Masters Academy

Paint-less

Feedback from Anna

I started to draw when my mom came home from a drawing class she was taking. I could see in her portfolio that she had a sketch of my sister and I. It triggered something inside that started my journey.

When I turned 17 a gallery accepted me to be an artist. I have been at this gallery ever sense. Its just I get commissions for paintings and I never got taught how to mix. I have been getting trained by a painter next store. I just hate to take her time.

I am 18 years old, and I was forced to grow up way to fast. Art is the only thing that has kept me happy. It is the only thing pushing me to wake up in the morning. I was homeless for 5 months. I am now trying to teach youth about art. I am currently struggling to get my name out there but deeply want to.

My favourite artist is Artemisia Gentileschi because her tormented life was put into amazing works like the Judith Slaying Holofernes. It was made after being raped by her husband.

My main challenge in art is mixing colors to be able to have the painting look like a what i want it to look like.
I want to master skills in oil painting, I’m hoping that doing online painting lessons will help me with this.

Some great work here. As you mention, all taking time, practice, and coaching to draw out to even greater work. Keep working, scholarship or no, or critics or no. You have the talent.

Yes their are many talented artist in this world but looking at Connors artwork you can feel the compassion she’s expressing and that’s why I believe Connor deserves this chance for her dreams to come true.

It was an absolute privilege to be able to watch Connor grow and succeed into the brilliant and talented young lady and artist that she is! She works deligently and whole heartedly for what she wants, even through the most adverse of situations. She absolutely deserves a chance at the best, because she has shown she is one of the very best.

Conner is a truly amazing creative talent. Her photo realism is definitely amazing, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her at the Access Gallery on a graphic novel mural project, and her character concepts really helped to drive the story plot forward. She will go a long way in the art world if given the opportunity.

Ditto the last comment. I also have watched Connor grow and bloom into a dedicated, determined young woman. When she puts her mind to something, watch out! Congratulations Connor on passing all of your GED tests within a couple of months. You go girl!!

Connor is amazing. To go through some of what she’s gone through in life but remain faithful to her gift. She puts so much detail into her art it really is spectacular. Aside from her artistic talent and her struggles in life Connor really is a gentle soul. Working with this young lady has been a pleasure. I wish Connor the best and my vote goes to her.

  14. Dayvid says:

Connor’s work above expresses a tension between soulfulness and longing. A hint of past struggle and a longing for something more. I love this piece!
