From African Abstract to Realism

From African Abstract to Realism

Feedback from Mac Sawaya

The journey of an artist is long. It is filled with trials and errors of which ones laughs off and continues.

I am a visual artist based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. A section of my bedroom is my studio. My current medium is oil on canvas.
I started drawing while in primary school inspired by illustrators in cowboys comic books.l remember trying to copy famous cowboys at that time, Kit Carlson, Roy Rogers and Buffalo Bill. I wanted to draw as good as them but failed. Got angry. My grandmother and teachers encouraged me to practice, practice and practice.

The practice paid of. Had it not been for art that I learned as a subject all the way from primary to advanced levels of education l wouldn’t have qualified for pursuing graduate studies in science education.

Learning about art has no ending. I wish not to end it. There are techniques of various types and ideas that one wishes to know, practice and perfect. African art is abstract naturally and the human figures are the main subjects. l would wish to combine this with the academic outlook to see what unveils. And this is what l wish to learn and practice.

l found Web Art Academy site accidentally while searching for issues on art in the Internet. The Academy invited anyone. It also invited persons to join their courses with a fee. That is where little turned sour. It was not possible for me, but subscribed to get information and free videos which are of great help.

The Art Academy with its good heart has invited people to write a story in form of a competition. An interesting story that could attract votes sufficient enough to be awarded a free membership. This is my story ladies and gentlemen. Read.

Please read! If you appreciate it the best thing you can do is to vote for me!

Please vote for me!
