As long as I can remember, art has been something born into me. My very first day at school we were asked to draw something and I drew a scene with the sun shining in the sky and drew the sun with sunrays not touching the sun. I can remember a student telling me to connect the sunrays to the circle of the sun, and I said “No ! That is not how the sun looks…the rays are away from the sun !” I remember that moment vividly…JUST LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY and knew I would some day be an artist. I was five years old !

Your existence matters in this world. You have your own purpose. Growing up, I never really knew my purpose. I was not the most intelligent, most beautiful or the most talented kid. I was bad at everything.
I was around ten years old, creating spiderman drawings for my little brother. Then I was surprised that it came out very good. I knew then that this would be my path. In somebody else’s story, our life is connected to one another. We influence other people to make them who they are. But my existence was not merely accepted, I had a hard time dealing with people at school.
Drawing and painting created my own world. When I was lost and alone, It saved me from myself and the world. Art exists, and it found me.

I’m an amateur by comparison, however, enjoy painting oil on canvas immensely. I have been able to enter some of my work in exhibits and they have been publicly viewed.

My path to art started as a child watching my older brother draw. I was always competing with him to be the better drawer and eventually succeeded. But as my life grew so did my art and my understanding of what art really is. The more I created the more I realized the power of creative intelligence and how it was the fundamental tool for progression in all of the human race. Art is the most evolved aspect of human existence and should be respected as such. That is why I want to learn as much as I can about art and its techniques for expression. My journey in art is a life long journey but a life long reward as well. We are all artist in a way I just don’t think most people know it. …

I have always been an artist, and in first grade my teacher, Mrs. Duran, had us draw a simple figure of a man walking. I still remember that drawing. I depicted him in a green crayon suit and a top hat and I believe my grandma even kept the drawing. It may still exist. From there I continued my love of drawing and coloring and always wanted to try oils, as my paternal grandmother was a painter of Colorado landscapes and elk. I got a starter set for my 13th birthday and my first painting of a sunset over the ocean turned muddy. I still have it. But I was hooked. I was accepted into honors art class in junior high school but my teacher did not teach us about under painting or glazing, strangely. Perhaps she didn’t know about it. …

My whole life has been in technology and engineering. I am getting into retirement, or semi-retirement. Always have dreams of being able to draw and paint. Kind of believing in traditional way to learn the basics (or selectively learn the basics) in order to obtain the knowledge and skills to that I can further explore what I can express in different forms (other than technology).Taking drawing lessons from Drawing Academy more than a year ago. Pretty slow paced since I am still working part-time. Felt good about the class and hope the Art Academy can provide the similar. …

I have loved art since I was a small child. I was widowed with two small children at a young age (22) which forced me into the corporate world to support my family. Art became a hobby when I had time and attention to devote here and there. I am now retired and my kids are grown and I am trying to start the career I always dreamed of, to become an artist that can make a living on my art. …

Basically a self taught artist. I’ve been drawing since grade school. I even entered a few school art competitions, usually came in second or third.
I also drew some characters for my sister’s d&d game and a local band. After High School joined the Army Reserves as an Illustrator, ended up in a unit that even though had a few illustrator slots, they didn’t have a need for illustrations.
That was that for a while until about 15 years ago when I saw a picture of a kabuki dancer in the entertainment center of a local newspaper, grabbed a cheap wood board and bought some acrylic paints and painted it. …
