A Bold New Path

A Bold New Path

Feedback from Don Meeks

I am a retired police officer in San Diego Ca. who was seriously injured in the line of duty. After the injury I developed a serious desire to draw and paint. I am not at this time great at either. I looked at your program several months ago and am convinced it is the best one for me because of you, the instructors and the type of learning you promote.

I paint with both acrylics and oils but I truly like oils more due to their color and consistency. I have tried to make myself better at drawing but it has not been as successful as I would like. My painting has improved over the past year but I am still not satisfied with the results. …

To infinity and beyond!

To infinity and beyond!

Feedback from Ariel Clearwater

I have always loved expressing myself creatively, whether in drawing, painting or crafting. When I graduated high school and had to make a choice of what to take for post secondary I was lost. In my first year I took some Art History classes with the most amazing women instructors. It was because of them that I majored in Art History. After university I continued working in restaurants because of how lucrative it can be. …

Not Forgotten

Not Forgotten

Feedback from Ken Hughson

I started painting when I was 58. My father was an artist and I wished I could do what he could. I was and still am afraid to fail. At times it cripples me. I stare at a page worried that i will mess up. As I age I have no fear of death. My fear is being forgotten I hope to develop a following. So people will know who I was. I believe an artist is never truly dead as long as his art survives. …

Debb’s Pure Joy

Debb’s Pure Joy

Feedback from Debb Ferris Bates

As long as I can remember, art has been something born into me. My very first day at school we were asked to draw something and I drew a scene with the sun shining in the sky and drew the sun with sunrays not touching the sun. I can remember a student telling me to connect the sunrays to the circle of the sun, and I said “No ! That is not how the sun looks…the rays are away from the sun !” I remember that moment vividly…JUST LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY and knew I would some day be an artist. I was five years old !

Behind Enemy Lines

Behind Enemy Lines

Feedback from Nienna

Your existence matters in this world. You have your own purpose. Growing up, I never really knew my purpose. I was not the most intelligent, most beautiful or the most talented kid. I was bad at everything.

I was around ten years old, creating spiderman drawings for my little brother. Then I was surprised that it came out very good. I knew then that this would be my path. In somebody else’s story, our life is connected to one another. We influence other people to make them who they are. But my existence was not merely accepted, I had a hard time dealing with people at school.
Drawing and painting created my own world. When I was lost and alone, It saved me from myself and the world. Art exists, and it found me.

Art is all I have

Art is all I have

Feedback from Andrew Bobrek

My path to art started as a child watching my older brother draw. I was always competing with him to be the better drawer and eventually succeeded. But as my life grew so did my art and my understanding of what art really is. The more I created the more I realized the power of creative intelligence and how it was the fundamental tool for progression in all of the human race. Art is the most evolved aspect of human existence and should be respected as such. That is why I want to learn as much as I can about art and its techniques for expression. My journey in art is a life long journey but a life long reward as well. We are all artist in a way I just don’t think most people know it. …

From Hollywood to The Masters: My New Adventures in Fine Art

From Hollywood to The Masters: My New Adventures in Fine Art

Feedback from Stephen Van Dorn

I have always been an artist, and in first grade my teacher, Mrs. Duran, had us draw a simple figure of a man walking. I still remember that drawing. I depicted him in a green crayon suit and a top hat and I believe my grandma even kept the drawing. It may still exist. From there I continued my love of drawing and coloring and always wanted to try oils, as my paternal grandmother was a painter of Colorado landscapes and elk. I got a starter set for my 13th birthday and my first painting of a sunset over the ocean turned muddy. I still have it. But I was hooked. I was accepted into honors art class in junior high school but my teacher did not teach us about under painting or glazing, strangely. Perhaps she didn’t know about it. …
