My Journey!

My Journey!

Feedback from Catherine Traynor

I have not been painting along – about two years. I have discovered however just how much joy painting brings.

I have been told that I have some talent and it would be the most amazing thing for me to be able to give up my office job and to paint and create for a living.

My challenge I guess with my art is the fact that I have no formal training. I don’t have the years of theory that most artisits have and I think it would be benefitical to my career to have some theory to bring my artwork along even further. …

Feedback from TULLIO

I am 36 years old, I am a beginner tattoo artist from Brazil. I work for the government during the week, 8 hours a day, and in my off time I invest in my dream of becoming a professional tattoo artist. Already performed some tattoos on my break times and feel I have fitness because they were good, as always drew and painted based on videos and tutorials from the internet, but as I do not have an academic background and I know other tattoo artists or painters do not all learned techniques to improve the tattoos and artwork that can attract customers.
I love art and I want to be a professional tattoist with a background in art. …

Late start, big heart!

Late start, big heart!

Feedback from Elizabeth Carmo

I’m a farm girl, been out in the country all my life, raised kids and cows and chickens with little time for anything else.

Now at 58 and the kids are out in the world I have time to paint. I started drawing a few years ago and of course the desire to paint followed.

Resources being limited I started with books and videos, the Internet has been my best resource for learning. But it has limits also and classes are too expensive for our farm budget.

I ran across Web Academy on YouTube, and feel it can take my painting to the next level. I dream of painting like the old masters!

It’s Never Too Late

It’s Never Too Late

Feedback from Curt Barker

Well, at 77 I decided I was not a senior citizen; rather just an Old Adventurer. So I reasoned why not explore the world of oil painting?

This summer, having no idea what I was doing, I picked up some paints, brushes, easel, and canvases and decided to paint for the first time since elementary school. While there are many artists in my family, only participation has been sculpture.

For my first painting I tried a landscape – turned out pretty bad. So, I decided that portraits are for me. …

Now I’m completely hooked on drawing and painting

Now I’m completely hooked on drawing and painting

Feedback from Zoe Uberoi

I’ve always been interested in art, but received no special instruction when I was growing up so I thought perhaps I might only be capable of working in some related field, though not true art or illustration.

I started working in the fashion industry and became a textile designer, which I love though some art styles were difficult for me to create. At around age 30 after the birth of my second daughter I hurt my neck from sitting at the computer and couldn’t sit or stand for more than a few minutes at a time. Improvement was very gradual and it was a depressing time.

To cheer myself up I started watching drawing and painting instructional videos on youtube. It gave me a lot of solace and improved my skills too. …

Feedback from Simona Tiron

Hi. My name is Simona Tiron and I want to develop Oil painting.

For 20 years I worked and I made a career in economic and financial field in Romania. Six years ago my life was changed totally because I decided to dedicate entirely to my hobby which is philosophy, psychology and anthropology. As a teacher of philosophy I lived almost 5 years in Moscow where I discovered oil painting. I discovered later the school of oil painting and I participated in only 6 classes because I had to go to another country with my profession. I can say that I fall in love with oil painting and in the 6 courses that I participated I did five paintings.

I continued to learn to paint from the Internet with extraordinary Russian teachers and I copied paintings that I liked. I understood that copying other painters I train my hand to listen my mind. Now I am living in Mexico continuing to teach philosophy and to paint. …

There’s No Time to Waste

There’s No Time to Waste

Feedback from Barbara Straley

I can remember drawing from about age four. All through school, drawing was the thing I did best. Other than drawing, I wasn’t much of a student because I just wasn’t interested.

I dreamed of going to the Kansas City Art Institute where my high school art teacher trained. It didn’t occur to me that one needed money to go to art school or college and of course I didn’t have any.

I did see that most artists had trouble making a living unless they taught school. It was 1952. I watched how people in small town Iowa watched teachers. I didn’t think I could be the paragon of virtue that teachers were expected to be and I was enough of a rebel that I didn’t want to try.

I didn’t plan life. It just sort of happened. I found a few art jobs along the way but none that paid well. I spent a lot of time doing yard work, waiting tables, and working in offices. Along the way I picked up a few college classes. I married thoughtlessly a couple of times. Had some great kids and spent the first forty plus years just trying to figure out how to grow up. Art was a fine vehicle for absorbing life’s frustrations.

Lifelong struggling to be an artist…won’t ever quit trying…will die still trying…!

Lifelong struggling to be an artist…won’t ever quit trying…will die still trying…!

Feedback from Paul Ramnora

I liked art from ever since youngest childhood. In particular, I remember reading fairy tale stories/and, seeing these tales being quite brilliantly illustrated; and, then, thinking to myself…I ‘wish’ I could write/draw/paint like that. In other words, for me it was never enough to observe art from the outside…; but, instead, I wished to become an insider artist myself, as well.

Certainly, as I’ve gradually grown far older…absolutely none of my former desire has changed. I cannot see myself as doing a normal 9 to 5 job; I was born with an ‘artistic temperament’ and, will do absolute loads when feeling truly ‘inspired’ enough…working non-stop 24 hours per day; but, then, when not feeling ‘inspired’…then I tend to feel really bored, and, quit. …

Feedback from Priti

Took up art after retirement and loved it but had to give it up.

Last year after I was widowed I took it up again and found to my surprise that even after a 10 year hiatus I could still make some good paintings albeit with the advice of an artist friend. Have tried oils and acrylics on canvas and now have taken to watercolour seriously. I love the peace and quiet painting provides to the mind! If I don’t paint for a few days my hands itch to get the pencil and brush out.
