Feedback from Brad Grace
Greetings. My name is Brad Grace. I am a 45 year old creative professional who lives in the Portland Oregon area. I am a father of one 9 years old boy, and husband to a beautiful loving wife.
I’ve always loved art and creative endeavors. As a youth (in the 1980’s) I loved drawing. So much so that I filled out one of those “Learn to Draw” tests from “Art Instruction Schools” (an art correspondence school in the US) and mailed it in. One day a rep from AIS called, set up an appointment with my dad, and came by our house to talk. He was very impressed with my sketches but alas, we were a low income family and my father wasn’t willing to pay for the instruction. So I missed that opportunity because of financial limitations. …

When I do something, I am really passionate about it. I like to create and learn new things but don’t have a creative career at the moment. I work in a hospital in an intensive care unit as a nursing assistant and am married with five children, two of whom have already moved out. Our family lives in an average sized Swedish town but we are originally from Hungary. Because of loving my own culture, language, literature and traditions I am able to do the same with others. It is inspiring to meet new people but I rarely take initiative to do it because of my shyness and introversion. On the other hand, I have a rich inner life and an analytical mind. My biggest interest is people: I am fascinated by the human body, the expressive faces and gestures, and understanding the interplay between body and soul. I like to have deep and long discussions with others. …

Art is everything in my life. Every day I create art even when I’m sleeping.
I think about my art and how can I get better. I don’t waist time because time is precious.
I believe that if get that – I’m going to get more experience and eventually be better. That’s my goal – to be better then the great masters. That’s way I draw and paint almost every day. …

I am a single mom and grandma. I work with families in crisis and art is a way of finding peace.
I did not go to college until my children where starting kindergarten. I was able to take some classes in college but kids and job had to come first. So doing art kept getting pushed back.
My only options was to start teaching my kids what I knew so I could continue doing pastels (I think my 6 and 7 year olds were the only little guys that knew what a kneed eraser and pastels were.) They can share information about Rubens and his brush strokes. …

I’m an artist, I know you probably think everyone claims they are artists, but I am truly an artist. And then you ask, how I know this to be true.
First of all I was drawing since I was 4 years old. I still remember the first picture my neighbour instructed me on. I dream of art, I live art.
I became a jewellery designer using watercolour and acrylic; now I’m moving into fine art in oil. I make magic with watercolour, and my clients used the images of my design to sell their jewellery rather than use photos. …

Been a mental health / behavioural health therapist for forty years. Some days are tougher than others. Paint has brought me peace amid the struggle of life on lefe’s terms.
I began painting two years ago when an artist friend set me up with materials and her generous friendship and guidance.
I have wanted to reflect the beauty that surrounds us. I love still life and portraiture, and delight in each new project. …

I am 41 year old, house wife and mom of 2 (4 years and 6 months).
I liked drawing (and creating) since early childhood and was drawing for pleasure. But my talent was neglected and forgotten. Since I am too busy (as a mom) the art didn’t yet take a place in my daily life but it’s there in my heart and mind!.
So I want to win this course to get a chance to learn on line after the kids sleep or when I am lucky to have a break! …

First of all I have been interested in art most of my life.
Being one of eight children I never got the opportunity to study, then I did my time in the Marines, got married and started having children. I raised six of them.
Most turned out well so far. Now I am 79 years old and am ready to fulfil my dream. I did pick up a lot of things over the years now I’m ready for some formal education.

I’ve been an artist and maker my entire life and feel it is my true purpose on this planet to create art.
So I did what every young aspiring artist is supposed to do and went to art school for three years and majored in painting. It was a good experience in a lot of ways, but it recently dawned on me that they didn’t really teach me much about painting technique. In fact, some teachers discouraged it, and several outside the department even declared painting “dead”.
Art school also had the counterproductive result of making me doubt myself and stop making art altogether. For years after graduating I didn’t paint much because I was hung up on making work that is “meaningful”- a truly paralyzing concept. …

I am 42 years old and began drawing in April 2015.
I have been steadily progressing in my art. I am into painting and am looking to increase in knowledge and ability in painting, specifically oil painting. I am taking some private lessons, but still feel very challenged to understand oil painting. I get easily frustrated with painting in oils.
I want to learn to paint, well. I want to have a greater understanding of oil painting and its processes.
I want to win the web art academy course, because I am aware of the quality of the program. I am a member of the drawing academy, which has greatly helped me in my drawing and laying this foundation to better paintings. …
